Why Horophile

How We Approach the Work

Discussion First

We assess, explain, and wait for your go-ahead. No work begins without a conversation about what is sensible for the piece.

Written Records

Every service produces documentation that travels with the watch — a small archive you can pass on along with the piece itself.

Reversible Methods

Nothing is altered permanently without reason. Restoration work follows archival principles so that future care remains possible.

Unhurried Timeline

Careful work takes the time it takes. We are straightforward about schedules and do not compress timelines at the expense of quality.

Collector Sensibility

The workshop is run by someone who collects, not just repairs. Originality and patina are understood as features, not problems to fix.

Northern Thailand Based

Located in Chang Klan, Chiang Mai — easy to visit, and we work with owners across Thailand who prefer to send their pieces by post.

Common Questions

Things People Often Ask

How do I know whether my watch needs servicing?
A Condition Assessment is designed for exactly this question. We examine the movement, case, and dial and give you a written note on its current state with practical options. There is no obligation to proceed further.
Will the service affect the originality or patina of my watch?
Sympathetic Servicing is specifically designed to preserve what makes a vintage piece interesting. We do not polish cases or refinish dials unless you ask us to, and we discuss any cosmetic question before acting on it.
How long does a full restoration take?
Museum-Grade Restoration is an extended project — typically several months depending on the complexity, parts availability, and the number of stages requiring fabrication. We discuss a realistic timeline at the outset and keep you updated at each stage.
Can I send my watch by post if I am outside Chiang Mai?
Yes. Many of our clients send pieces from Bangkok, Phuket, and other parts of Thailand. We can advise on suitable packaging and insurers who cover horological items in transit.
What if spare parts are no longer commercially available?
For Museum-Grade Restoration projects, fabrication of period-appropriate parts is part of the service. We discuss what is practical and explain the approach — and the cost — before any fabrication work begins.
What are your working hours and how can I arrange a visit?
The workshop is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00–18:00. Visits are by appointment — please telephone or send a message through the contact form and we will arrange a suitable time.
